The KMT nuts are locked in place with three brass securing-pins that are uniformly distributed around the circumference, which in turn are attached at an angle to the nut.  The angle at which the pins are worked into the nuts matches the internal thread's profile angle.

The nuts are locked by pressing the securing pins against the shaft thread using setscrews.  Subsequently the axial forces are absorbed by the thread flanks and not by the securing pins.  Securing the nuts against shifting is only effected through the friction between the securing pins and the shaft threads.

The nuts can be used as often as desired and retain their precision because the securing pins are not deformed by the cut-thread profile, meaning the shaft threads are also not damaged.

The three securing pins, uniformly distributed around the circumference, facilitate setting an exact right-hand angle while securing.  Inaccuracies from components attached to the shaft can be compensated with nuts.

The KMT nuts have grooves distributed around the circumference and are provided with key surfaces up to size 15 on top of that
